Ahmet Haşim’in Nesirlerinde Modernleşen Kadın İmgesi Üzerine Bazı Dikkatler
Abstract
This article discusses the perspective of Ahmet Haşim, one of the important poets of Turkish
literature, on 20th-century modern life and women. Although Ahmet Haşim is a name known for
his poems, his prose is also essential for our literature. Many writers have stated itMany writers and
poets have stated that Haşim's prose is appreciated and loved. The innovations brought about by
modernization, social life, and the change in the place of women in our lives have taken their place
in various works. Haşim could not remain indifferent to these current issues of the period and
expressed his ideas through his prose writings. Many topics are discussed in Haşim's prose, but the
basis of this work is the new appearance of modern women. Although his admiration for his mother
forms the basis of his ideas about women, Haşim is uncomfortable with the new image of women
in modern life. The reason behind his seemingly offensive comments towards women may be that
he neither considers himself ugly nor has difficulty communicating with women. On the contrary,
sources show that he liked getting close to women, always dreamed of marriage, and was always
looking for love. Haşim does not only want women's privacy to change and for them to lose their
charm that men wonder about. Haşim is sad that women have lost the tradition in their clothes, hair,
make-up, and social life. This study focuses on the effect of modernization on women in Ahmet
Haşim's prose.
