Erzurum Köşk Köyü Gelin Getirme Fotoğrafı Üzerine Okuma Denemesi

Abstract

The culture that combines the past and the future is the center of people's lives. People living in a community have a permanent memory. In line with this common memory, people who leave permanent marks on the places they live also record memories in their minds. The memories that exist in their minds are not as well-known as people tell. These memories can be erased from the mind over time. Their reality and clarity are lost when transferred to another person. With the invention of the camera, the moments people live have become concrete. People take photos of their special days, places they visit, and objects they care about with their cameras. The photos that accumulate over time become memories. Each period has its own characteristics. These characteristics can be observed and read through photographs. For example, when a birthday photo is read, the cultural elements of the period emerge in the clothes of the people, the objects in the house, the preparations made, and the meals. In the photo examined here, there is the tradition of bringing the bride, which is a part of the wedding. By interpreting the photo, cultural elements about to be forgotten are conveyed through a section of the wedding traditions, people’s clothing, and housing structure. The shooting quality of the camera of the period is low compared to today. The reason why not every detail of the photo is clear is that it is black and white.
